The approaching of super typhoon Saola not only increased the uncertainty of this year’s opening ceremony, but also made rehearsal of the event became almost impossible. Lucky, weather turned good on the 4th of September and the opening ceremony can proceed on schedule.
The theme of this school year is Justice, in order to let student to have a more concrete understanding on the theme of the year, and be able to put the theme into action, the theme of the year was further enhanced by three more concrete goals, namely to shoulder responsibilities, to be fair to others and to respect others. By following these principles, it is hoped that every student can become as important as ‘salt and light’ to others.
In one of the important section of the opening ceremony, students representatives of each class presented their class goals on how to achieve the theme of the year, written on well designed light bulb or salt bottle shaped papers, and used that as a sacrifice to God.
We were honoured to have invited Rev Fr. Dominic Lui to preside over our opening ceremony and the blessing of the newly decorated Saint Joan of Arc Mural. Father Lui reminded us to return love for love, as a mean to honour God’s justice.
In his sharing, Principal Yuen used the film ‘Elemental’ on which the parent teacher association has organised a film appreciation activity during summer holiday, as an example to indoctrinate students on the importance of using reflective thinking, particularly when face with difficult decisions. Last but not least, all new students received their prayer books from either Father Lui or Principal Yuen, it is out of the intention that through prayer, students can get close to god and through god, they can make wise decision on doing the right thing on the right time and right method.
