We had a date with the Capulets and the Montagues
Led by their English teachers, ten students from S1 to S3 spent an invaluable afternoon of drama appreciation at the Hong Kong Academy of Performing Arts on 18th November, 2023. In recognition of their hard work in English learning and outstanding performance in after-school drama lessons, the privileged students watched a live performance of the world-renowned Shakespearean play, 'Romeo and Juliet', produced by the ABA Productions. Thoughtful teachers as they could be, the tickets were already booked in advance months ago, to provide other learning experiences and to further motivate students who excelled in the language.
What the drama performance brought to the junior students were beyond words. From the famous prologue to the fighting scene as well as the balcony scene to the reconciliation of the two families, the complete immersion of all students into the drama was like a magnetic attraction. The beauty of drama, charisma of the actors and actresses, attractive costumes, authentic setting, and props, music, and band, together with the lines from the everlasting script would forever last in the minds of this group of future stars. It has been an outburst of laughter, excitement, and tragic feelings during the entertainment. Concurrently, watching this live drama show has been a precious lesson that could never be taught in books. Thanks, Romeo, and Juliet, for having a date with this cohort of budding drama fans, whose unleashed talents in drama are yet to be discovered in no time.
