Our F.5 Physics and other interested F.5 students visited the Tsim Sha Tsui Marine Terminal on April 12, 2024, to participate in a guided tour of Xuelong 2, China's first indigenously-built polar icebreaker and scientific research vessel.
The program was a great opportunity for the students to learn more about China's first self-built polar icebreaker and scientific research vessel, Xuelong 2. Through the program, students could learn about China's latest technological developments and, more importantly, enhance their understanding of polar security.
Xuelong 2 is equipped with advanced marine and polar research facilities, including a data acquisition and detection system for the collection of seawater samples at various depths.
It is also the world's first icebreaker to adopt bidirectional and 360-degree free rotation technologies, enabling the vessel to navigate icy waters more efficiently. The ship also features a helicopter for emergency rescue and essential supplies delivery.
