ST. Joan of Arc Secondary School

Chinese is used as a medium of instruction in most subjects, except English. Under the Medium of Instruction (MOI) Fine-tuning policy, Mathematics and Science are taught in English in junior forms.
In senior forms, students’ preference of MOI of NSS elective subjects will be considered in the planning of MOI in each cohort. In the 2022/23 school year, subjects including Biology, Chemistry, Physics, ICT, Economics, BAFS are taught in either Chinese or English.
For NCS students, all subjects except Chinese, Putonghua, Chinese History are taught in English in junior forms.
Our school is dedicated to creating an English-rich environment for students. We adopt the following measures to widen students’ exposure to English and boost their English proficiency:

Our English teachers will communicate in English with students.
Supplement and enhancement courses are offered after school or during holidays.
A wide range of regular English activities such as English assembly, lunchtime activities, etc. are organized in the English room and school campus. The NET teacher and student English ambassadors are mainly responsible for the activities.
Students are encouraged to take part in various English activities such as the Speech Festival and English Drama. Our students have had achieved outstanding results in these events.
Timely study tours to the English speaking countries under the supervision of our English teachers, are organized every year to immerse students ‘immerse’ into a rich English-speaking environment.
