Category : Competition¦STEAM Elite

The Hong Kong Science Fair (HKSF), organised by the Hong Kong Innovation Foundation, is dedicated to providing an interactive platform for students to tackle community challenges. Through a competition format, students are encouraged to use science and creativity to solve various challenges in daily life. Guided by the mission of ‘Think Big Be Innovative’, the exhibition aims to inspire students to address everyday challenges through innovative and human-centric approaches.

Two teams from our school successfully made it to the finals among numerous participating teams. During the Hong Kong Science Fair held on June 28-29 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, they showcased their creative inventions alongside 120 other teams of primary and secondary school students. Among them, the "Plastic Bottle Dismantler" design team stood out and proudly won the Bronze Award in the junior secondary division.

「塑料瓶拆解器」

In traditional recycling processes, the labels and caps of plastic bottles are often processed together with the bottle bodies, resulting in poor recycling quality and consuming a lot of manpower and material resources for subsequent separation. The automated ‘塑料瓶拆解器’ can fix and move the bottles, and separate the labels and caps, which then fall into respective boxes for automatic sorting.

ARTIFICIAL EYE ( A . EYE )

'A.Eye’ is an innovative and assistive device designed specificallyfor visually impaired individuals, equipped with AI cameras, and built-in speakers to enhance mobility and navigation.

The glasses can provide:

1. Obstacle Detection: Cameras capture real-time video of the user’s surroundings. AI algorithms analyse the video to identify obstacles, such as people and furniture.

2.Audio Feedback: Once an obstacle is detected, the system generates verbal cues, guiding the user on how to navigate their environment safely.

3.Environment Recognition: The AI can recognise landmarks, signs or objects, providing context to the user, such as announcing ‘Keep walking’, ‘There is an obstacle in front of you’, or ‘A water bottle is on your right-hand side’.
