On September 15, 2025, Academician Jiao Nianzhi from the Chinese Academy of Sciences, an expert in national marine ecology and resource environmental effects, visited our school as the keynote speaker for the "Master Lecture for Children" school session. Academician Jiao's research focuses on micro-marine biology, achieving innovative results in carbon cycling and the processes and mechanisms of marine microorganisms. During the lecture, Academician Jiao vividly introduced different carbon pumps, explaining how carbon is transferred from the atmosphere to the ocean to help regulate climate change.
The event was organized by the China Soong Ching Ling Foundation, with joint donations from the Institute for Philanthropy and the Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, and the Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups as a strategic partner. Through understanding Academician Jiao’s "International Big Science Program on Marine Negative Emissions," students learned how to utilize the ocean's carbon absorption capacity to address climate change, showcasing our nation's wise contributions to global challenges and actively safeguarding global and national ecological and resource security.
