ST. Joan of Arc Secondary School

Objectives:

In order to better equip students for the future challenges, our school would like to impose life-planning activities in a whole-school approach, which assist students to make wise decision for their future. Through designing systematic trainings, students will be able to know more about themselves from a deeper perspective, and then learn life-planning eventually. This helps students minimize their anxiety and choose a suitable career path confidently.

Form 1 (self-recognition)

  • Understand their own abilities, personalities, interests and values
  • Broaden and develop their potentials via various activities.

Form 4 (nurture skills and elements required for life-planning)

  • Set up individual career goals
  • Develop interpersonal relationship, communication skills and cooperation skills with others

Form 2 (Understanding the workplace)

  • Understand what job is and explore the meaning of job to individuals
  • Understand the relationship between various jobs and interests, abilities and individual values.
  • Nurture appropriate working attitudes and values

Form 5 (Understanding the workplace and general environment)

  • Develop individual thoughts about jobs and careers
  • Understanding the suitability of various jobs to individuals
  • Explore different possibilities and gain a deeper understanding of multiple choices of jobs that may be suitable for you
  • Understand how environmental factors affect personal options of jobs and make wise decision suitable to personal needs and reality
  • Recognize economic and political factors affecting jobs and careers

Form 3 (recognize promotion paths)

  • Understand the relationship between different subjects, abilities and interests
  • Explore the relationship between different subjects and jobs
  • Set up goals for promotion and job selection
  • Learn the way and procedure of how to make wise decision

Form 6 (plan the future after graduation)

  • Choose suitable paths for further studies according to ability and interests (e.g. majoring in universities)
  • Understand the relationship between different majors and jobs
  • Explore different paths of further studies and careers
  • Apply a set of personal procedures to further studies and careers
  • Strengthen interpersonal skills, communication skills and cooperation skills
  • Develop job application skills
  • Explore the methods and procedures of job application
  • Understand preliminary financial skills
  • Learn time-management and social etiquette

Regular activities or jobs:

  • Class visits
  • Provide individual career guidance
  • implement life planning
  • Organize Form 3 Parents’ Day and guidance on selection of subjects
  • Organize and deliver information about career guidance
  • Apply for different scholarships and improvement awards
  • Compose recommendation letters, testimonials, certification of study and so on
  • Assist the application of Applied Learning
  • Be responsible for the Career-related Experiences under Other Learning Experiences of the senior forms
  • Conduct a survey of JUPAS and graduates movement
  • Introduce and assist students to apply for local and overseas universities and institutions
  • Organize career guidance activities for Non-Chinese Speaking students
